A very touching tale indeed.

A very touching tale indeed. However, instead of asking whether one agrees or disagrees with the chosen course of action, it would be more insightful to enquire how circumstances affect outcomes by influencing the choices individuals make. A father of more familiar disposition would have preached & thrashed Dr. Arun proffering following justifications :

1.       For lying : ethical dimension.
2.       For watching a John Wayne Film : material dimension.
3.       For Delaying the dad : negligence dimension.
4.       For Botching up the whole plan : management dimension. (others may enrich this glossary too).

The pain inflicted would have only left an imprint of fear on Dr. Arun with a message that either the technique used needs polishing or better alternatives need  to be imagined.

The approach used by his father left an indelible imprint on him that what mattered to his dad was the truth, and the courage required to speak it out, not anything else. What he did to accomplish the task is also a form of violence in which he put his son through a gut wrenching agony for five and half hours while he was supposedly contemplating what went wrong with his son’s upbringing on foot. More importantly it worked on Dr. Arun because I am sure he otherwise didn’t see his father extolling the virtues of beholding the truth while conveniently helping himself to other less reputable options. A path on which I have seen many fathers treading, yours truly included, while preaching better values to children.

Lastly I think the ethical and moral mould of a person is a gift of inborn predilections and influences from the environment. How else can one explain within a single family - even great Mahatma’s not excluded from this conundrum - a heady mix of divergent behaviours even on this uni-dimension of ‘Truth’ without for a moment holding us here to see if we agree on what ‘Truth’ purports.

To round up on a personal note, I never saw my father lie whatever the situation – inconvenient, embarrassing, materially disadvantaging, “white lies”, etc. –; he never preached, but subtly made clear what he desired;  and he not even once used physical violence – but my mother amply doled out humongous share of it for reasons my father I suspect totally disapproved. I for one believe that when it comes to adherence to truth I have resorted to not seldom what goes under the euphemism of “white lies” where everyone is free to pick and choose what to gate in or to keep out. Yet I could say confidently that among all those who have known me in whatever capacity none would say that I have harmed (that would include physical, material, psychological, moral,) her or him in any way; at least deliberately or advertently. Even a person who held such elastic standards stares today in uncomprehending disbelieve at the prevalent zeitgeist that encourages pursuit of pecuniary “happiness” in complete disregard of everything else proved still fortunate to count close individuals, like dear friend Arun Jain, my wife - Mangala and my son - Angad, who come closest to the ideal of ‘truth speakers’ – by that I mean people who have inelastic measuring standard by which they stand.

I trust other friends including more enlightened ones come forward to share their world views.

Cheers and all that,

Lead, Follow or get out of the way!

"Lead, Follow or get out of the way!"

Entrusting our security to a government bureaucracy............

Entrusting our security to a government bureaucracy is like guarding a virgin in a brothel. This moron is a stupid whore. It’s up to the people to figure out the truth, and bit by bit, they are doing so.

How often we have been violent in our personal lives…

How often we have been violent in our personal lives…

Dr. Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and founder of the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Non-violence, in his June 9 lecture at the University of Puerto Rico, shared the following story as an example of "non-violence in parenting":

"I was 16 years old and living with my parents at the institute my grandfather had founded 18 miles outside of Durban, South Africa , in the middle of the sugar plantations. We were deep in the country and had no neighbors, so my two sisters and I would always look forward to going to town to visit friends or go to the movies.

One day, my father asked me to drive him to town for an all-day conference, and I jumped at the chance. Since I was going to town, my mother gave me a list of groceries she needed and, since I had all day in town, my father ask me to take care of several pending chores, such as getting the car serviced. When I dropped my father off that morning, he said, ' I will meet you here at 5:00 p.m., and we will go home together.'

After hurriedly completing my chores, I went straight to the nearest movie theatre. I got so engrossed in a John Wayne double-feature that I forgot the time. It was 5:30 before I remembered. By the time I ran to the garage and got the car and hurried to where my father was waiting for me, it was almost 6:00.

He anxiously asked me, ' Why were you late? ' I was so ashamed of telling him I was watching a John Wayne western movie that I said, ' The car wasn't ready, so I had to wait, not realizing that he had already called the garage. When he caught me in the lie, he said: 'There' s something wrong in the way I brought you up that didn' t give you the confidence to tell me the truth. In order to figure out where I went wrong with you, I'm going to walk home 18 miles and think about it. '

So, dressed in his suit and dress shoes, he began to walk home in the dark on mostly unpaved, unlit roads. I couldn't leave him, so for five-and-a-half hours I drove behind him, watching my father go through this agony for a stupid lie that I uttered. I decided then and there that I was never going to lie again.

I often think about that episode and wonder, if he had punished me the way we punish our children, whether I would have learned a lesson at all. I don't think so. I would have suffered the punishment and gone on doing the same thing. But this single non-violent action was so powerful that it is still as if it happened yesterday. That is the power of non-violence. "

For all other grades please contact me with the quantity they require and on what basis FOB or C&F.
Please bearing in mind that the above procedure cannot be altered.

Iranian Bitumen is a tough job to buy in such a huge quantity on monthly basis.. because of Following

Iran Origin Bitumen Sales every Tuesday on a Exchange in Iran
If one Awarded the bid than he has to pay Money within 5 working days
Some of the quantity is traded on FOB, but mostly on Ex factory
Last Traded prices for Exchange was, 440/usd/pmt ex factory Drumming cost and fob cost is 88/usd/pmt so it is fob cost at BA/BIK (Bandar Abbas and Bander Immam Khomeni)

Iran does not accept mostly LC in Dollars due to Embargo
their LC Come in Dubai and chaged in UAE Currency or deal done on DP Sight basis
For Loading Bitumin Containers are mostly not avaialbe every month in iran being a Liquid Commodity

20000 Mts At per month level from iran is a Highly risky affair, my last 50 containers took more than 30 days to load from there

None of the refinery provided SGS in their Premises, they deal on their own specification, so SGS is ony available where Shipper withdraw samples by themselves and provide to SGS

Price after February will start going down and may go down up to 25 to 30 usd/pmt fob in Iran

A New Industry, Up 60%, and the Future of Executive Search by Bob Jordan

A New Industry, Up 60%, and the Future of Executive Search
A Changing Landscape for Executive Talent

As companies and their boards show increasing reluctance to add big salaries or full-time major hires to their roster in uncertain financial times, a new pool of qualified talent has emerged to fill in the gaps for short-term projects, turnaround assignments, and entrepreneurial consulting needs. Meet the interim executive.

What differentiates an interim from a permanent exec?
•    Interim execs have defined contracts usually measured in months.
•    Interim execs can often produce desired results faster than their permanent counterparts.
•    Corporations assume no long-term liability for their short-term hires.

And the supply of executive talent is rich. Research by the interimCEOinterimCFO network projects 60 percent growth in the number of interim execs this year. With the goal of making executive talent-on-demand more accessible to companies in need of short-term help, the free worldwide network and association has already attracted over 2,000 C-level interim, project, and contract executives worldwide.

According to Chuck Gumbert, interim CEO and head of The Tomcat Group, “Up until now, the specialty of interim executives has been relatively unknown.”

Productivity matters in a business landscape where, according to EPOCH Partners, LLC, over 60 percent of new C-level executives fail within 16 months, after a search process that averages nine months.

“It’s not uncommon for me to talk with the board of directors, finalize on Friday night that I’m going to take over the company as CEO, sign a contract over the weekend, and start on Monday,” claims interim CEO and turnaround specialist John Collard. “We are very nimble and flexible in how quickly we can respond.”

EPOCH also notes that fewer than one in five companies is well positioned to attract and retain top talent through traditional recruiting methods. This need for non-traditional ways of sourcing talent is perhaps the main driver behind the emergence of specialized business networks like interimCEOinterimCFO. The network recently announced that it will be launching a free, open search site called mapmyTeam™ for private equity firms, corporations, board directors, and company owners who are searching for executive talent.

For interim executives as well as companies that serve as a resource to C-level executives, interimCEOinterimCFO regularly hosts webinars, conference calls, and live events, including the following upcoming breakfast meetings in: Redwood City, CA (April 23); New York City (May 7); and Chicago (May 17). To learn more, visit www.interimceo.com.

interimCEOinterimCFO is the worldwide network of executives who take on interim, contract and project work. The network serves CEOs, CFOs, COOs, CMO, CTOs, CIO, and turnaround specialists as the place to present their expertise, find new clients, and find new resources for their teams.

John Strupeck
Interim Executive with focus on restructuring manufacturing operations for European based companies

As an interim executive on his third assignment, I would add that the interim executive concept is much more accepted by European firms than in the USA. I have completed two assignments for French firms, one for a UK firm, Most recently completed a USA assignment, then was tasked by the same company to straighten out the China operation. Typically, an event occurs or is pending that requires an outside resource to resolve. It is important to note that although an interim assignment can result in a permanent position, I have found that I am most effective working with the client if he is aware that my intention is to provide the interim solution, then move on.

Bob Jordan

Great point, as we’ve also heard from members of the network. In the UK placement agencies account for one-third of interim assignments (there are no placement agencies in the US as yet). In Europe there’s a ready acceptance for interims if the division or project represents significant risk to the executive’s career. In those cases, management would far rather bring in interim resources.

Hugh McCulloch - Comptroller of the Currency says so-----

The article was the advice of Hugh McCulloch, the Comptroller of the Currency in 1863 and later the Secretary of the Treasury. McCulloch wrote these comments to the national banks under his watch, imploring them to uphold prudent lending standards.

Let no loans be made that are not secured beyond a reasonable contingency.

Do nothing to foster and encourage speculation.

Give facilities only to legitimate and prudent transactions.

Insist upon the payment of all paper at maturity, no matter whether you need the money or not.

Distribute your loans rather than concentrate them in a few hands. Large loans to a single individual or company, although sometimes proper and necessary, are generally injudicious, and frequently unsafe.

If you have reason to distrust the integrity of a customer, close his account. Never deal with a rascal under the impression that you can prevent him from cheating you. The risk in such cases is greater than the profits.

In business, know no man’s politics. Manage your bank as a business institution, and let no political partiality or prejudice influence your judgment or action in the conduct of its affairs.

The capital of a bank should be a reality, not a fiction.

It should be a chief aim, therefore, of the managers of the banks, to make their respective institutions strong; not only to keep their capital from being impaired, but gradually to create a surplus that will be a protection to their capital and to their creditors in the trying times that sooner or later happen to all banking institutions.

Splendid “financiering” is not legitimate banking, and splendid financiers, in banking, are generally either humbugs or rascals.

SWIFT CODE MT 799 -- courtesy http://www.icumsa45.com/mt-799/

http://www.icumsa45.com/mt-799/

MT799 – What is a SWIFT MT-799?
SWIFT CODE MT 799

When trading sugar there are multiple documents and forms requested by both parties. One of the more commonly requested, but lesser understood documents is the MT-799. Many sugar sellers will request that the buyer issue an MT-799 before they provide proof of product, or proceed beyond the initial stages of the sale. For new traders who are not familiar with international banking systems, this can be a rather confusing request. This article provides information on the SWIFT system, as well as on the MT-799 itself.

What does SWIFT stand for?

SWIFT is an acronym which stands for ‘Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications’. Formed in 1973, SWIFT is a Belgian creation, and its main offices are still in Belgium to this day. SWIFT was formed in response to a growing need for an internationally sound communications network that could facilitate business transactions across borders effectively, quickly, and securely. When SWIFT was first formed it linked 239 banks in fifteen different countries. Now in 2008, SWIFT has grown to be a world wide organization which facilitates communications between banks, corporations, and securities institutions. SWIFT communications are now the global standard for international banking transactions, and as such are utilized millions of times daily. It is estimated that more than eight thousand banking institutions currently use the SWIFT messaging system for their transactions, and SWIFT systems are now in place in two hundred and eight countries.

What has made SWIFT so very effective? SWIFT’s success has primarily been the result of understanding and responding to the unique demands of a global market. The SWIFT system utilizes standardized messages, which increase efficiency, and is fully automated, which means that the days of lost messages are all but over. International transactions depend on security, reliability, and accuracy. The SWIFT system provides all these elements.

In addition to providing a safe and secure messaging system for the financial world, SWIFT also provides opportunities for companies to build revenue streams, and offers a wide range of services outside the messaging field. Some of these services include directories, market information, and market solutions.

SWIFT Codes

SWIFT Codes are actually very easy to understand, in spite of their unfathomable appearance. The ‘MT’ at the beginning of the code stands for ‘Message Type’, and the number indicates one of the many standardized message formats which comprise the SWIFT messaging system.

The MT-799
The MT-799 is a free format SWIFT message type in which a banking institution confirms that funds are in place to cover a potential trade. This can, on occasion, be used as an irrevocable undertaking, depending on the language used in the MT-799, but is not a promise to pay or any form of bank guarantee in its standard format. The function of the MT-799 is simply to assure the seller that the buyer does have the necessary funds to complete the trade.

The MT-799 is usually issued before a contract is signed and before a letter of credit or bank guarantee is issued. After the MT-799 has been received by the seller’s bank, it is then normally the responsibility of the seller’s bank to send a POP (proof of product) to the buyer’s bank, at which point the trade continues towards commencement.

The actual payment method commonly used is a documentary letter of credit, which the seller presents to the issuing or confirming bank along with shipping documents. Once the bank confirms the documents, the seller is then paid. An alternative method is to use a bank guarantee in place of a letter of credit. It is normally at the seller’s discretion which method of payment is used.

How Do I Issue A MT-799

The short answer is that you don’t. Approach your bank, and make an arrangement with them to have an MT-799 wired to the seller’s bank. Some banks are reluctant to issue MT-799’s, as these make them liable for the full cost of the trade, which can sometimes be in the millions. A bank will normally not issue an MT-799 without some form of collateral to secure their own interests, so be prepared to put up a hefty amount of collateral.

What Does A MT-799 Look Like?

An MT-799 is an automated message sent electronically from one bank to another, so you won’t really ’see’ an MT-799 at all. The paperwork associated with an MT-799 will vary from bank to bank, though most banks follow a similar format.

What Information Do I Need To Send A MT-799?

You will need the following information to send an MT-799.

• Name of the advising bank.
• LC Number.
• LC Amount.
• Tenor of Draft.
• Latest shipment date.
• Person or entity liable for confirmation fee.
• Whether the LC is restricted for negotiation or not.
• A description of the merchandise.
• Port and/or country where sugar will be loaded.
• Port and/or country where sugar will be unloaded.

FERROUS - CAST IRON Scrap

FERROUS - CAST IRON Scrap
Description :

Cast iron scrap is an iron alloy that contains high amounts of carbon. It is a raw material for the production of new steel and cast-iron products. The steelmaking and foundry industries are dependent upon the ready availability of scrap from manufacturing operations and from the recovery of products that are no longer used or needed.

Cast iron is very strong, dense and malleable iron alloy. Cast iron is the primary product of ferrous metallurgy and it is used for repartition in steel production. It is one of the basic constructional materials. Cast iron is widely used in mechanical engineering because of its good casting and durability properties. What concerns durability, it competes only with carbonaceous steel. In modern mechanical engineering almost 75% of extracted cast iron is used in machinery and various metallic products.

With its low melting point, good fluidity, excellent malleability and wear resistance cast irons have become an engineering material with a wide range of applications, like: water waste hatches, lattices, sewer pipes, huge main water pipes and other similar big, heavy and durable stuff.

CAST Iron Scrap is sold as per ISRI - codes 252, 253, 255, 256, 257, 258, 259, 260, 261, 262 and 263. It is generally sold as mix of 253, 255, 257, 261, 262, and 263.
