With 6 phases, West Bengal to have longest poll schedule
The Election Commission on Tuesday announced elections for Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will have a single-phase polls on April 13 and announcement of results would be a month later -- on May 13. There would be two phases in Assam with 62 Assembly constituencies going to poll on April 4 and the remaining 64 polling on April 11.
The longest poll schedule was announced for West Bengal, set to take almost a month and comprising six phases. Chief Election Commissioner SY Qureshi said elections in West Bengal would begin on April 18 (64 constituencies) and be followed by the remaining 50 on April 23. April 27 would be the next date for 75 constituencies, while May 3 (63 constituencies) and May 10 (14 constituencies) would follow. Counting of votes would be on May 13.
