Expressing serious concern over the Union Home Minister P. Chidambram’s remarks complementing the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister for what he described as “tactful” handling of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Rashtriya Ekta Yatra last week, BJP Chief Spokesperson & National Executive Member, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the Home Minister’s remarks not only exposed the Congress-led UPA government’s connivance with the NC led state government in methodically suppressing legitimate democratic mainstream activity but it was also a gross impropriety on the part of Union Home Minister to compliment the state authorities which had unauthorisedly kept in illegal detention three senior national leaders two of whom Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj enjoyed the status of Union Cabinet Ministers.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that at a time when the BJP’s central leadership had taken up the matter with Manmohan Singh government, it smacked of high-handedness on the part of Home Minister to endorse the treatment meted out to Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Anant Kumar.
The BJP is seriously worried about the Union Home Minister’s frequent instigatory initiatives which have time and again tended to demoralize the nationalistic and patriotic forces in the state and provided encouragement to separatists, Dr. Jitendra Singh said. It seems as though Chidambarm has forsaken his constitutional duties to uphold the sovereignty of the Indian republic and is instead contributing to further loosening of the relationship bond of state of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India. Stating that there was a clear case of unholy patronage flowing in from 10 janpath for the continuance of a separatist friendly regime in Jammu & Kashmir, Dr. Singh said the BJP leadership views “Azadi”, “Autonomy” and “self-rule” as part of the same separatist spectrum and warns Chidambram against making any irresponsible observations or announcements during his forthcoming visit to J&K starting from February 03.
