Washington: Describing India as a rising global power, a bi-partisan resolution introduced in the US House of Representatives has expressed support for the country's bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
The resolution, introduced by Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings on Thursday and supported by half-a-dozen other lawmakers, has now been referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Appreciating India for being a strong democratic ally, key economic partner and rising global power, the resolution favours its inclusion as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
It encourages President Barack Obama to work with friends and allies of the US in the United Nations to effect India's inclusion on the Security Council.
