"Vast is That, divine, its form unthinkable; it shines out subtler than the subtle: very far and farther than farness, it is here close to us, for those who have the vision it is here even in this world; it is here, hidden in the secret heart." -Mandukya Upanishad III.1.6

"Brahma is the Supreme, the Eternal. Atman is his Spirit in man. Karma is the force of creation, wherefrom all things have their life." -Bhagavad Gita (8.3)

"He who knows the first vital thread, binding all the things formed in shape, colour and words, knows only the physical form of the universe, and knows very little. But he who goes deeper and perceives the string inside the string, the thin web binding separate life-forces with cords of unity, knows the real entity. Only he knows the mighty omnipotent, omnipresent God, Who is within and beyond all formulated entities of the vast universe. Penetrate deeper to know the ultimate truth."

--Atharva Veda (10.8.38)

"Whilst the Supreme Being in His role of the Lord of Creation of the Universe and all its creatures is imminent in the womb of Creation or Hiranyagarbha, The radiant dynamic orb of primordial matter preparatory to the creation of the universe, generates creation in myriad ways. He Himself is never born. Intellectuals, whilst engaged in deep contemplation upon God, intuitively perceive the entire creation in His womb. They are convinced that all the constellations, the suns of the universe, the zodiacs, the galaxies and the like are inherent in Prajapati, Lord of Creation."

Rig Veda (10.90.19)

"In order to create an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe"-Carl Sagan (Scientist)

"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'universe,' a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separate from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty"

-Albert Einstein (Scientist)

"Brahman or Supreme Reality cannot be defined because it is infinite. It is beyond thought and beyond imagination. It is nothing in the mind and nothing outside the mind, nothing past or present or future. These are only conceptions in time and space. But the nearest conception of Brahman we can have is to say that it is a state of consciousness beyond time when SAT, CIT and ANANDA- Being, Consciousness and Bliss are one."

-Upanishads (Mystical, esoteric doctrines of ancient India)

"Our perception does not identify the outside world as it really is, but the way we are allowed to recognize it, as a consequence of transformations performed by our senses. Thus, we transform photons into images, vibrations into sounds and noises and chemical reactions into specific smells and tastes. In truth, the universe is colorless, in-odorous, insipid and silent"

- Sir John Eccles (Neuroscientist)

"The world of solid matter- featuring three-dimensional space, linear time, and unrelenting causality, as we experience it in our ordinary states of consciousness- does not have an independent existence of its own. Rather than being the one true reality, as it is portrayed by materialistic science, it is a creation of Absolute Consciousness. The material world of our everyday life, including our own body, is a playful and somewhat arbitrary product of the cosmic creative principle, an infinitely sophisticated “virtual reality”, a divine play created by Absolute Consciousness and the Cosmic Void. Our universe that appears to contain countless myriads of separate entities and elements, is in its deepest nature just one being of immense proportions and unimaginable complexity"

-Dr Stanislav Grof (Research Scientist/Psychiatrist)

"O King of Gods. I have known the dreadful dissolution of the universe. I have seen all perish, again and again, at the end of every cycle. At that terrible time, every single atom dissolves into the primal pure waters of eternity, whence originally all arose. Everything then goes back into the fathomless, wild infinity of the ocean, which is covered with utter darkness and is empty of every sign of animate being. Ah, who will count the universes that have passed away, or the creations that have risen afresh, again and again, from the formless abyss of the vast waters? Who will number the passing ages of the world, as they follow each other endlessly? And who will search through the wide infinities of space to count the universes side by side, each containing its Brahma, its Vishnu, and its Shiva?"

--Puranas (Ancient Mystical Hindu Texts on Cosmology)

"The external world and consciousness are one and the same thing. The multiplicity of individual minds is only apparent, in truth there is only one mind. And consciousness is a singular of which the plural is unknown—there is only one thing and what seems to be a plurality is merely a series of different aspects of this one thing, produced by a deception; The same illusion is produced in a gallery of mirrors, and in the same way Gaurishankar and Mt Everest turned out to be the same peak seen from different valleys"

-Erwin Shroedinger (Quantum Physicist)

"What you call normal waking consciousness, is actually a collectively induced hypnotic trance that is created by your own beliefs and perceptions. Human groups agree on which of their perceptions should be admitted to awareness, then they train each other to see the world in that way and only in that way (hence trance)"

-Dr Charles Tart (Engineer/Psychologist/Scientist)

"Human beings can never truly know the nature of reality as it is. Everything we perceive comes through the filter of our consciousness. So we don't really see reality. We see our construction of it, built up by the neurons of our brain."

-Immanuel Kant (Philosopher)

"In seeing, there is just seeing. No seer and nothing seen. In hearing, there is just hearing. No hearer and nothing heard"

- Buddha (Enlightened Mystic)

"How far is the whole feeling and fabric of our ordinary, everyday world a socially programmed- induced fiction, in which we all are enmeshed? The only ones to escape the net are a few whose conditioning has not taken place, or has broken down, or who have awakened from the spell- a motley crew of geniuses, psychotics and sages"

-Dr R.D Laing (Psychiatrist/Research scientist)

Prashant Saxena The "Rigvedic hymn of creation" ....

There was neither non-existence nor existence then.
There was neither the realm of space nor the sky which is beyond.
What stirred?
Where?
In whose protection?
Was there water, bottlemlessly deep?

There was neither death nor immortality then.
There was no distinguishing sign of night nor of day.
That One breathed, windless, by its own impulse.
Other than that there was nothing beyond.

Darkness was hidden by darkness in the beginning,
with no distinguishing sign, all this was water.
The life force that was covered with emptiness,
that One arose through the power of heat.

Desire came upon that One in the beginning,
that was the first seed of mind.
Poets seeking in their heart with wisdom
found the bond of existence and non-existence.

Their cord was extended across.
Was there below?
Was there above?
There were seed-placers, there were powers.
There was impulse beneath, there was giving forth above.

Who really knows?
Who will here proclaim it?
Whence was it produced?
Whence is this creation?
The gods came afterwards, with the creation of this universe.
Who then knows whence it has arisen?

Whence this creation has arisen
- perhaps it formed itself, or perhaps it did not -
the One who looks down on it,
in the highest heaven, only He knows
or perhaps even He does not know.

Prashant Saxena Everything in metaphorical form......

Motion of Earth in RigVeda
**Rig Veda 10.22.14
“This earth is devoid of hands and legs, yet it moves ahead. All the objects over the earth also move with it. It moves around the sun.

**Rig Veda 10.149.1
“The sun has tied Earth and other planets through attraction and moves them around itself as if a trainer moves newly trained horses around itself holding their reins.”

GRAVITATIONAL FORCE
Rig Veda 8.12.28
**“O Indra! by putting forth your mighty rays, which possess the qualities of gravitation and attraction-illumination and motion – keep up the netire universe in order through the Power of your attraction.”

Rig Veda 1.6.5, Rig Veda 8.12.30
“O God, You have created this Sun. You possess infinite power. You are upholding the sun and other spheres and render them steadfast by your power of attraction.

Yajur Veda 33.43
“The sun moves in its own orbit in space taking along with itself the mortal bodies like earth through force of attraction.”

This states that even the sun revolves around something higher. According to science, Sun revolves around the centre of milky way galaxy!!

Rig Veda 1.35.9
“The sun moves in its own orbit but holding earth and other heavenly bodies in a manner that they do not collide with each other through force of attraction.

It states that all the other planets move in their own separate axis.

Rig Veda 1.164.13
“Sun moves in its orbit which itself is moving. Earth and other bodies move around sun due to force of attraction, because sun is heavier than them.

This states the gravitation law, that force of gravitation is proportional to the mass i.e body with higher mass will create greater gravitational force than one with a lower mass.

Atharva Veda 4.11.1
“The sun has held the earth and other planets”

LIGHT OF MOON

Rig Veda 1.84.15
“The moving moon always receives a ray of light from sun”

Rig Veda 10.85.9
“Moon decided to marry. Day and Night attended its wedding. And sun gifted his daughter “Sun ray” to Moon.”

ECLIPSE
Rig Veda 5.40.5
“O Sun! When you are blocked by the one whom you gifted your own light (moon), then earth gets scared by sudden darkness.”

Per Eric Gillberg Knowledge is structured in consciousness, knowledge is different in different states of consciousness. In order for our own perception to perceive the truth that so wonderfully are described by these insightful men, we must raise our own consciousness so that we ourself experience this reality and the highest truths. Our limited mind and intellect can only inspire and give us a limited understanding of the divine reality, it can never give us the real experince of the eternal truth.

Anu Mullick Kaul As the churning of the thoughts slows down, as we become grounded in the body intelligence rises...this is conciousness. In fact, the intellect is an impediment to knowing the Self. With daily meditation one eventaully experiences a state of calm, bliss and freedom....
Witnessing oneself in daily actvities and dealing with life with a newfound wisdom.

Per Eric Gillberg ‎@Anu All spiritual awakening comes from our ability to establish ourselves in the experience of our own immutable divine nature.
To achieve this understanding, we must go beyond all relative perception.
We must locate Sakshi Chaitanya, beyond the mind or antahkarana. Only by transcending into our true selves and establish ourselves in the maintenance of this witnessing state in wakefulness, sleep and dream, can we bring to knowledge creation's illusion. There is no other way, only Brahman knows Brahman, we must "live" the knowledge through our own consciousness.
Knowledge is structured in consciousness.

Anu Mullick Kaul Peri I feel we are in agreement. As we go beyong the mind/intellect we experience conciousness, we are able to witness/sakshi and thereby attain knowlege/wisdom. I tend to be more succint in my comments as long as i get the masg across. :-))

Dharmo Jyoti If only Brahman can know Brahman, then spirituality is a waste of time. What is the use if God remains to be known by God only?

Anu Mullick Kaul ‎@Dharmo. Advaita tells us that we arre a part ofthe ocean ofknowledge that is the Divine Source, therefore we have the same attributes and once we reach the realized state through gyan and meditation we become one with God. God is within us. So hum.I am That. The seperation is an illusion,it exists inthe mind. Letting go of the mind, quieting the thoughts allows conciousness to rise. This is how we know Brahman.

Tina ૐ Sadhwani ‎@Dharmo... in my understanding, according to the Upanishads... Brahman is not a 'personal' god form.. but its the name given to the absolute, Supreme Reality. It is the source of all things, but it is beyond all things- trans-spatio-temporal, not limited by time and space. Brahman is the single thread that runs thro' and binds everything in the universe. Hence it is the fundamental reality and the ground of all being. The plurality of the phenomenal world is an illusion(maya). But to see this and to experience that fundamental oneness, one's consciousness has to be elevated to a very advanced level, it needs to be free of mental and cultural conditionings.

I know that in some philosophies, man is considered as separate from God. This is both true and untrue, it is a paradox. In the Upanishads, from an absolute point of view, Atman = Brahman. Jiva (psycho-physical personality) however is NOT Brahman. So from that point of view man is not God because Jiva is not God. Jiva is mortal and is limited in time and space. But are we the Jiva or the Atman? To experience that Atman we have to elevate to the level of a global-cosmic consciousness, in other words- Brahman.

I am aware that today there are many new-age junk theories making its rounds with people claiming that they are God. The problem is they have misunderstood the philosophy of the Upanishads and taken that line 'Aham Brahmasmi" out of context. Jiva is not God. Only Brahman can know Brahman. Hence to walk around claiming we are God is incorrect, it is still a projection of the ego, of the Jiva. Once you elevate to the level of God-consciousness, the reality is different.

---Brahman is the totality of the universe as it is present outside of you, Atman is the totality of the universe as it is present within you.
---Brahman is the totality of the world known objectively, Atman is the totality of the world known subjectively.
---So Atman is nothing but Brahman that has localized itself within the mind and body of an individual. Brahman when He enters into man, is known as Atman.
---Atman is local, Brahman universal. We can call the sun as it is known to the whole world- Brahman, and we can call the sun as it is known from India- Atman. Atman relates to the individual, Brahman to the universal.
---So Brahman (universal consciousness) is known through Atman. Therefore to realize Brahman, one has to realize the self (Atman).
---When the universal is spoken of in relation to the individual, (i.e. when the individual is known to be universal), it is known as Brahman.
---When you speak of clay in general, it can be called clay absolute; but when you refer to an individual pot of clay as 'my pot of clay', then there is the universal clay-Brahman, and there is my pot of clay which represents Atman.
---When the pot understands it is clay, identical with the clay universal, then the Atman of the pot is Brahman, and in this sense the individual is universal.
---Hence Atman is equated with Brahman. But to experience that we have to transcend the limitations and conditionings of the Jiva.
---There are many Jivas. But there is only one Atman that is common to all.
----Hence understanding Atman has nothing to do with understanding man’s subjective reality, however, his inner life may be a source of understanding the nature of Atman.
---Atman can be both personal and impersonal. It is when Atman is viewed in relation to man, that it becomes personal.
---Its manifestation in other beings (plants, animals) is in the form of life, and in the realm of inanimate objects it manifests or reveals itself as their essence.
---In man it manifests as Consciousness.
---Atman is neither internal nor external, as it is not bound by spatial relations and distinctions.
----While the various faculties of man like mind, intelligence, will, etc constitute his personhood, Atman is free of them and beyond them.
----Atman is Brahman and it is within all... Just as life is common to all living beings and not separate or different in different people, similarly Atman is common to all beings. It is their essence.
---Therefore, in knowing the essence of himself, man can know the essence of all beings as the same reality permeates all.
----In the context of man, Atman is the consciousness, the knower and perceiver of all things.
---Atman is not to be identified with the physical or mental personality of the individual, which is Jiva and is only the apparent reality. Hence man should not actually go around claiming he is God.. because that is still the Jiva talking.
---Atman is beyond mere physical and mental personality. It is unchanging and remains constant in all the states of the individual (wakeful, dream, sleep, death and rebirth).
----Hence the Atman is free from all the attributes of the person, free from all sins, sufferings, griefs and desires.
---The Atman is formless, beyond being and non-being, beyond any sense of tangibility and comprehension.
--- That's why one cannot even use words to express it since it is beyond the realm of words, time, space, etc.

Per Eric Gillberg ‎@ Tina Ji, It is really so wonderful to read your profound explanation of the unexplained. There is realy nothing much to add, you have on the intellect level, given all the knowledge that is evere possible, I do think that the most importent point is your statement that words are to limited, the fact remains, we must transcend any explanation, and all activity of our limited mind and intellect, its only through the union of our jivatman with Partman we can obtain the ultimate truth .
When we dream we know it is a reality, when we wake up we know it was not the true reality. When we established ourself in "Being Brahman", we know that all three states of consciousness was not the true reality, it was all like a dream.

Tina ૐ Sadhwani Agreed... in some places they call it jiva and in some atman. To clear the confusion, look at the definition... there is no conflict in that... the body of man and all that is mortal and time-bound is not Atman. That which is eternal and beyond all physical attributes is Atman.
