Do not extract minerals without permission: J&K govt.

Srinagar, Apr. 26 -- Alarmed over the illegal extraction, removal and transportation of minerals, the Jammu and Kashmir Geology and Mining department has asked dealers and others to obtain proper permission from the department before undertaking such activities. 

A press release issued by Joint Director, Geology and Mining (G&M) here said the public in general and people involved in extraction, removal and transportation of stones, boulders, sand, Bajri, clay, limestone, Gypsum, Marble and Granite, in particular are informed that extraction and removal of minerals without proper permission from the department is prohibited under section 21 of MM(D&R) Act 1957 (Cental Act 67 of 1957). 

He said it is a punishable crime, which shall involve imposition of fine to the tune of Rs 25,000 and imprisonment upto two years. 

Besides, as per the Jammu and Kashmir Prevention of illegal mining, transporation and storage of minerals Rule 2003, the transportation of minerals in any form (finished or raw) without a consignment challan of the department are liable to be seized alongwith the vehicle and shall be fined and punished. 

He said dealers and others are warned to obtain proper permission from the department for extraction and removal of minerals.
